Volvo Key Fob Troubleshooting

Volvo drivers love their key fob's handy remote that comes with features. By using a smartphone application, they can lock and unlock the vehicle and start the engine and even locate it.

Place the key fob's face up on an uncluttered surface. Find the button that opens it, insert a coin between the cover and the fob and pull it up gently.

Unlocking the Doors

Volvo's remote keyfobs let you unlock your vehicle's doors, tailgate and fuel filler flap with the press of the button. Remote key fobs can also switch on the ignition and activate the alarm. They can even operate the sunroof, if it is equipped. You'll never have to search for your keys, or get locked out of your vehicle.

If you're using a brand-new Volvo model that we have in our dealership, you might be unfamiliar with some of its key fob's hidden features. You can use the lock/unlock option manually if your key fob battery goes out.

Keep your key fob in place with the Volvo logo facing upwards to press the manual lock/unlock. Find the black button close to the edge of your key fob and gently press it. This will open a cover that protects the manual key blade. You'll require a flathead screwdriver and a coin to flip this cover counterclockwise, so that the arrow is aligned with "open."

Start the Engine

Modern Volvo key fobs offer a level of convenience and functionality that is not available with traditional manual keys. Key fobs, like any other battery-operated device will eventually lose its charge over time. If you've noticed that your key fob is less responsive to pressing the lock or unlock buttons, it's an indication that it's time to replace the battery.

You can enable this feature with the key fob in case your car has a dealer installed Engine Remote Start. The vehicle will be able to cool or heat at the same temperature it was set to when it was parked and last for up to 15 mins.

Remove the cover that covers the back of the key fob using your fingernail. A button should be located beneath the cover on a diagonal, near the body's edge. You can remove it by sliding it downwards and then to the right. The cover will be released and slide off, revealing the manual blade! If you're still having trouble finding the button, search around the newly revealed manual key access to determine whether there is a hidden slot or lever.

Close the Windows

Volvo key fobs come with an in-built feature that lets users to instantly lower all windows. This is very useful in situations where you need to squeeze into parking spaces that are tight or just need some fresh air while driving.

Press and hold the unlocking button on your Volvo remote control for four seconds. This will lower the windows and the sunroof, should you have one. When you're done with the car you can shut everything by pressing the lock button a second time for four seconds.

Turning off the Alarm
