Losing your car keys or lost could be very frustrating. If you have a spare key, adding the new key to your car is relatively cheap and easy.

Keys that were stolen or lost are not found

Lockouts

Saab owners are advised to have a spare key on hand, because it's simpler to replace a lost or stolen one. If you lose your only key it's a different matter as it's quite expensive to get one and requires the dealer to install and program a brand new TWICE module (Column Integration Module in earlier vehicles) and also a brand-new key that is OEM (not from Amazon or eBay).

Since 1995 since 1995, every Saab is required to have an immobilizer on the vehicle. This makes it almost impossible to steal a car without a key. The key needs a special transponder that is embedded in it for it to start the engine and then open your doors. The dealer will need to replace the CIM (Column Integration Module) or TWICE (Theft Warning Integrated Central Electronics), depending on the model, as well as the key itself. Additionally it will have to be programmed to work with the new module. Keys that are claimed-new from sellers on the aftermarket are usually not properly initialized and not be programmed correctly when you require them.

It is not unusual for the battery in the key fob to wear out after a couple of years of use, particularly when it is frequently used for locking and unlocking the car. Fortunately the replacement of the battery on the majority of SAAB 9-3 key fob models is quite simple and does not require any special tools.
